I don't know if I'm a bit naive or if I just don't know enough about her to have formed an opinion but I always thought that Daphne Guiness was a couture only kinda lady and as such would only really address this kind of style. I might have even found her to be a bit snobbish about fashion. I was SOOOO wrong and I'm delighted about that too.
About two weeks ago she did a piece in the Financial Times about street style and here's what she had to say about the (in my opinion) paramount element of fashion and individual style:
"Between couture fashion and street fashion, there is a certain continuity. It's great to go to London's Camden Market or downtown New York and see what the kids are wearing," she says. "Today, you don't even have to travel to do this; all you have to do is look at fashion blogs."
"On one site you might see a hipster in Williamsburg, New York, for example, in very tight, very shrunken jackets and trousers, and then you jump to another and see a different type of person wearing an oversized shirt, belted with silver tights. It's like a bunch of ad-hoc experiments going on all the time."
"Celebrities almost never look good unless they are 'out' at something or other, while real fashion animals always look a little interesting, even if they are only going to Starbucks. Individuality will always exist."
"It's more that it has become very underground and doesn't infiltrate the mainstream as much as it should, so you have to search it out, which is getting more difficult, but also more rewarding."
"It's exciting to see people inhabit their look, wearing clothes from morning to night. Fashion at its most interesting and purposeful, whether it's the most expensive clothes being made or the least expensive, is not about showing off - it's about creation."
Another couture creature giving recognition to the streets is Karl Largerfeld!! He was recently photographed for Vanity Fair wearing some Billionaire Boys Club gear and claiming he's a rap fan - I'm impressed!
Next is not so much a recent thing but more something that I have always found attractive and that's Thick Eyebrows. I think it comes back to the time when I was much younger when I found a picture of my mother when she was about 19 with these beautiful thick eyebrows. I remember her telling me only to ever trim them and that they are much more beautiful thick and she was right. They give the face character! The best illustration of this would have to be Brooke Shiedls when she was really young - she just carried it off so well!!

Next week sees the opening of the colette pop-up store in Gap New York so if anyone wants to just buy me a plane ticket to NY that would be great! It sounds like it's definately something worth visiting and it's only for a limited time so get your bum bums down there! If, like me, you can't get over, check out the website http://www.colettexgap.com/ or got to the Paris store where they will be stocking some the items from the collaboration.
One of the designers who will be part of the collection is Alexis Mabille. He is just WONDERFUL!!! His collections make me happy! If you don't already know about him have a look at some of the photos from his AW 09 collection and if you don't spot the pattern - the man loves a good bow! In fact, that was the basis of his first collection and is now synonymous with all of the collections that have followed. And it's unisex! I love him, he is Mega and I want to meet him to shake his hand because his stuff is beautiful and deserves alot more exposure! Check it!!

Bag to be featured in the colette X Gap collaboration

Discovered this lady only recently, though I'm sure I'm behind and she's been around for ages!! But anyhow, Ana Lou of London designs some really pretty and quirky accessories and after looking around the website it seems there's something for everyone - she has classic collections as well as more off-beat stuff. My favourite pieces are the following:

This reminds of something Cleopatra would
wear!

And finally!!! It wouldn't be right if I didn't include a pair of kicks because, let's face it, it's me!! I'm really drawn to the Nike Blazers because they're slim and sometimes the chunkier hi-tops can make a girl look kinda like a giant and or make your feet look bigger than they are. But these are so flattering and as ever Nike have some really mega designs! These are my favourite pair!

I'm just back form Electric Picnic so I'm going to need to gush a little bit about the music because it was really impressive altogether!! The best act had to be Sigur Ros - quite possibly the most beautiful sight and sound I've had the pleasure of experiencing in quite a while. I've listened to them a good bit but to see them live is just something else - I just can't describe the feeling it gave me.
Hoppipolla - Sigur Ros

Then of course, Santogold was the other person that gave me goosebumps - she was just THE COOLEST FUCKING PERSON I have ever seen and heard! You all already know how much I dig her so I won't go on!
